PTI AMSYSCO Scholarship Program
The new PTI AMSYSCO Scholarship program has been recently established by AMSYSCO, Inc. to commemorate the company’s 30 years in the post-tensioning industry. In announcing this new scholarship program, AMSYSCO owner, Rattan Khosa remarked “Last week AMSYSCO completed
30 years in business. Only in this great country America, one can come with just $8 and later start a business in a basement. Over the years I have been returning to the community, part of what I make every year, through my private foundation named after my parents. I thought it was time that I did something for the post tensioning. It will be great to award scholarships through PTI.”
The AMSYSCO Scholarship will provide two engineering students with $2,500 each for the Winter/Spring 2012 school term. The students must attend an U.S. engineering undergraduate or graduate program with preference given to those attending the University of Maryland, and the University of Illinois at Urbana, IL. The student is required to be in good standing academically and must be pursuing a civil and/or structural engineering degree.
Preference will also be given to students studying and/or researching in the field of post-tensioned concrete.
Award recipients will be selected and announced March 30, 2012. In addition, the award recipient will be honored at an awards ceremony that will be held in conjunction with the
Post-Tensioning Institute’s 2012 Annual Technical Conference. The student will be invited to attend the conference and awards presentation at PTI expense.

William C. Bailey Memorial and Edward K. Rice Scholarship Programs
The William C. Bailey Memorial Scholarship was established in 2008 in honor of Mr. Bailey's exceptional contributions to the post-tensioning industry. Mr. Bailey, deceased, was a Fellow of PTI and was an active member over his 30-plus year career in the post-tensioning industry. He served as PTI President in 1993-1994 and also served as Chairman of the Unbonded Tendon Committee. Funding has been provided by many of his peers and long-time friends in the industry.
The Edward K. Rice Scholarship was established in 2010. Mr. Rice is currently the Chairman of CTS Cement Manufacturing Corporation. He has been intimately involved with the development of prestressed concrete, and is a pioneer of post-tensioned concrete in the U.S. In 2005, he was elected as one of PTI's Legends of Post-Tensioning for his outstanding contributions to the industry over the years.
The William C. Bailey Memorial and the Edward K. Rice Scholarship Programs will provide a total of six scholarships in the amount of $2,500 each to deserving engineering students for the 2012 Winter/Spring term. Please refer to information below to apply:

Student Competitions
In 2006, as part of its biennial design awards competition, PTI introduced a new competition for college students. this year in a brand new category. Student submissions must be something built by a student or group of students within the last five years. Built projects must incorporate post-tensioning strands that prestress a building component, and may be in the form of a sculpture or other scale model.
To date participation has been limited to a few universities; however, PTI is encouraging students from other accredited North American universities and colleges to submit entries for awards and recognition.
2008 Competition
The 2008 Student Project award was presented to Tylor Middlestadt, Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, CA for his project entitled "The Post-Tensioned Concrete Advantage: Experimental Study of the Impact of Concrete Compressive Strength on the Strength and Serviceability of a Post-Tensioned Concrete Slab."

2006 Competition
The 2006 student project winner was a team of students also from Cal Poly for their entry: "Concrete Blade Structure." The students included Susan Smilanich, Jon Voorhies, Ben Green, Mike McDonnell, Jeff Messana and Robert Pacheco.
The students designed and constructed this complex art form using post-tensioned and reinforced concrete. They were challenged to build a structure with a 50-100 year service life utilizing modern concrete and post-tensioning technology.
